인생의 최고의 가치

연어는 매년 강을 따라 자신이 태어났었던 곳으로 갑니다. 그 여행은 죽음을 향해 가는 것입니다. Every year, salmon swims against the river to the place it was born. That journey is made to its death. 연어가 강을 거슬러 올라 가는 길에는 많은 어려움과 위험이 있습니다. For the salmon, the journey against the flow of the river holds many struggles and dangers. 하지만 연어는 목적을 가지고 죽음의 장소로 올라 갑니다. However, the salmon goes to its destination with a solid purpose. 그리고 알을 낳고 죽습니다. After laying its eggs, it dies. 연어는 본능적으로 죽을 때와 장소를 알고 찾아 옵니다. The salmon knows through instinct when and where it will die. 그리고 무엇을 위해 그 수고 와 위험을 감수 하는 지도 압니다. Also, they don’t care for the struggles and dangers of the journey. 그런 연어는 분명한 죽음의 가치를 가지고 있는 것입니다. Those salmon surely knows the value of their death. 한국 중학교 교과서에 의하면 가치란 “자기 삶에서 귀중한 것으로 여기는 것이며, 인간 마다 추구하는 가치가 다르며, 바람직한 가치를 추구 하는 것이 인간다운 삶이다” 라고 정의되어 있다. According to Korean Middle school text books, the definition of “value” is one’s precious thing in life, and differs depending on each person, and the desire for the best of everything is human. 토기장이는 용도에 따라 그릇을 만듭니다. A potter designs bowls to fulfill a purpose. 밥 그릇은 상위에서 밥을 담고 있어야 그 가치가 분명해 집니다. A rice bowl must be made to hold rice and sit on top of a table; this is a rice bowl’s value. 화병은 꽃을 담고 있어야 하며, 항아리는 그 목적에 맞는 무엇인가를 담고 있어야 합니다. A vase must hold flowers, and a pot must hold what it was made to hold. 용도 대로 사용 될 때에 토기장의 의지가 분명히 드러나게 되는 것입니다. Only when these things are used for what it was made to do, the potter’s will is achieved. 아라비아 추장이 영국을 방문 하게 되었습니다. The Chief of Arabia visited England. 그리고 호텔에서 머물면서 수도꼭지를 발견하게 되었습니다. He stayed in a hotel and saw a water faucet for the first time. 그는 영국에 머무르는 동안 내내 욕실 안에서 수도꼭지와 지냈습니다. During his stay, he spent all his time with the water faucet in the bathroom. 아라비아의 사막 한가운데 살고 있는 추장에게 수도 꼭지는 무엇과도 비교 할 수 없는 가치를 부여하게 했습니다. Due to living his life in the middle of the desert, the value of discovering a water faucet could not be compared with anything. 그는 돌아가는 날에 부하들에게 시켜 그 수도꼭지를 뜯어 내라고 지시 했고 부하들은 수도꼭지를 떼어내기 위해 호텔 벽을 부수고 있었습니다. On the day of his departure, he ordered his followers to bring the water facet. In order to do that, his followers had to destroy the hotel’s well. 무슨 짓이냐고 묻는 호텔 직원에게 추장은 대답했습니다. When the hotel workers came, they asked the Chief what was going on. The Chief answered… 이 수도 꼭지는 우리 사막한가운데 사는 우리 부족에게 물을 공급해줄 희망이라고… This water faucet is our tribe’s hope because it supplies us with water. 우리는 수도꼭지에 가치를 두고 있는 추장 처럼 어리석은 삶을 살 수 있습니다. We can’t live foolishly like the Chief by putting value on the water faucet, rather than the true source of water. 나는 여러분들이 씨앗의 가치를 갖기를 원합니다. I want all of you to have the value of a seed. 여기 작은 씨앗 하나가 있지만 이 씨앗은 모든 생물의 근원 입니다. The seed may be small, but it contains the life of everything. 이 씨앗은 땅에 뿌려지고 싹이 나고 자라서, 큰 나무가 되고 열매를 맺습니다. This seed sprouts from the ground, grows into a big tree and finally bears fruit. 이 작은 씨앗 안에는 얼마나 많은 cherry가 들어 있을 까요? How many cherries are in this small seed? 풀은 자라 곤충의 먹이가 되고 곤충은 더 큰 파충류의 먹이가 되고 , 파충류는 동물의 먹이가 됩니다. Grass grows, insects feed on the grass, and the insects get eaten by bigger prey. Then, the prey gets eaten by animals. 씨는 자신이 죽어 짐으로 세상을 새롭게 만들고 있는 것입니다. A seed dies, and a new life is created. 예수님은 영원한 가치를 위해 이 땅에 오셨고, 영원한 가치를 위해 십자가에 달려 돌아 가셨습니다. Jesus comes to us for an everlasting value and he died on the cross for that everlasting value. 예수님 자체가 하나님의 아들로써 세상에서 제일 가는 가치를 가지고 있는 분이기 때문에 모든 인류를 대신해 죽은 그의 죽음은 세상에 가장 큰 가치를 줄 수 있는 것입니다. Jesus is God’s son and therefore has great value. Because of his death in our stead, it is the greatest value. 우리에게 영원토록 천국을 소유할 수 있는 가치보다 더 큰 가지는 없습니다. For us, there is no value except the value to go to heaven. 본분에 여인이 향유를 예수님의 머리에 부을 때 주위의 사람들은 향유의 가치를 따져 여인을 나무랐습니다. In today’s scripture reading, a woman pours perfume over Jesus’ head, then many people ridicule the woman saying that the value of the perfume is higher. 하지만 예수님은 여인이 가진 가치를 잘 알고 계셨습니다. But, Jesus knows the value that the woman had. 여인에게는 예수님이 바로 “가치 “그 자체였던 것입니다. To the woman, her value was Jesus. 우리는 어떤 가치들을 가지고 살아가고 있습니까? What kind of value do we have in our lives? 하나님은 성경을 통해 우리에게 영원한 “가치”를 가지라고 말하고 있습니다. God says in the bible, You’ll have everlasting value. 이 땅에 살면서 우리에게 필요한 많은 가치들이 있지만 언젠가 모두 하나님 앞에 섰을 때 당당히 하나님 앞에 서게 해주는 가치를 우리는 소유 해야만 합니다. In our lives we need many values; however we must hold values that allow us to stand before God. 이 가치는 바로 오직 예수 그리스도 뿐입니다 This value is only Jesus.
